چکیده
This article presents the novel FPGA-based 1 Gb/s near-Shannon-limit ACM modem developed within the MHOMS program with particular focus on the advanced modem algorithm solutions devised. A number of powerful FEC schemes have been analyzed as possible candidates for the MHOMS modem, and the final selection is justified in terms of the best tradeoff between complexity and performance. Stateof-the-art modulation and demodulation algorithms are also presented, including nonlinearity dynamic precompensation techniques and innovative syncrhonization strategies required by the selected powerful modulation and coding schemes. Overall modem performances are also shown for a variety of spectral efficiencies. MHOMS: HIGH-SPEED ACM MODEM FOR SATELLITE APPLICATIONS The present contribution describes the achievements obtained within the ESA Technology Research Program Modems for High-Order Modulation Schemes (MHOMS), Contract No. 16593/02/NL/EC, led by Alenia Spazio (a FINMECCANICA Company) as prime contractor. 1 The phase noise used for the design and throughout the performance simulations is the commercial user equipment mask defined in the DVB-S2 standard [2]. An Algorithm to Compute the Free Distance of Turbo Codes
A new algori thm for computing the free distance of turbo codes is applied to the CCSDS and the UMTS standard codes. Results on the free distance behaviour for increasing interleaver length are also presented.
متن کاملSystematic encoders for convolutional codes and their application to turbo codes
Abst rac t Systematic recursive convolutional encoders have been shown to play a crucial role in the design and implementation ofparallel concatenated codes (“turbo codes77). We present here a canonical structure of minimal linear systematic rate k / n encoders and use it in the search for good constituent codes of parallel concatenated codes. Tables of the best encoders for various rates are a...
متن کاملA search for good convolutional codes to be used in the construction of turbo codes
Recursive systematic convolutional encoders have been shown to play a crucial role in the design of turbo codes. We recall some properties of binary convolutional encoders and apply them to a search for good constituent convolutional codes of turbo codes. Tables of the “best” recursive systematic convolutional encoders found are presented for various rates, together with the average bit-error p...
متن کاملConcatenated codes with interleaver for digital transmission over mobile channels
thorough comparison among three alternative solutions for the transmission of medium-high speed data over mobile telecommunication systems with high quality of service. They are based on concatenated codes with interleavers, the first two using the parallel concatenation known as turbo code, and the third the serial concatenation recently proposed. The comparison between the two alternatives ha...
